The new railway line aims to enhance transportation efficiency for the upcoming Expo 2027 in Serbia.
The construction of a new railway line connecting Zemun Polje, Nikola
Tesla Airport, and the National Stadium has officially commenced, as announced by Serbia's Minister of Finance, Siniša Mali.
This development is part of the preparations for the International Specialized Exhibition Expo 2027, set to take place in Serbia.
The railway line will span a total length of 18.3 kilometers and will feature a dual-track, electrified system designed for passenger traffic, capable of supporting speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.
The project plans to include four new stops along the route: Singidunum, Airport, Surčin, and the National Stadium railway station.
Minister Mali stated that the ongoing preparations for Expo 2027 involve the construction of various facilities and the necessary linear infrastructure.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing railway transport efficiency in the City of Belgrade, particularly in anticipation of the expected influx of three to four million visitors during the Expo.
The railway line is intended to improve the mobility of passengers traveling to and from the Expo, the National Stadium, and Nikola
Tesla Airport.
Mali noted that once completed, the Surčin complex will be connected by rail to the city center and the 'Prokop' station, with an estimated travel time of approximately 30 minutes.
Construction activities are reportedly progressing according to schedule, with an expected completion date set for the end of 2026.
