A group of students from the University of Niš has filed a criminal complaint against Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, citing allegations of abuse of power and endangerment of security related to his visit to critically injured patients at the Clinical Center of Serbia.

The complaint was submitted to the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Niš on the grounds of unauthorized entry into the intensive care unit on March 17, where victims of a recent fire in Kočane were being treated.

The students also highlighted a subsequent visit by the Mayor of Niš to the injured individuals at the Niš Military Hospital on March 18, asserting that both visits were conducted in the presence of photographers and journalists.

They emphasized that intensive care units are strictly regulated environments, with legal protections in place for patient privacy and safety that should not be breached.

In their submission, the law students criticized both Vučić and the Mayor for allegedly prioritizing media exposure over genuine concern for the victims.

They stated, 'They did not enter the intensive care units because they care about the injured, and their goal was not solidarity, but a spectacle.'

The group claimed that the visits were orchestrated to garner political benefits and enhance personal and party ratings, even at the expense of the vulnerable patients who were unable to provide consent for such publicity.

The students expressed frustration over the lack of action from the public prosecution, stating, 'We have waited long enough for the public prosecutor, as an independent entity of criminal prosecution, to recognize its constitutional and legal obligation—to react to the evidently unlawful behaviors of holders of the highest state and local functions.'

They further noted an admission from President Vučić regarding his unauthorized access to the hospital's restricted areas, referencing his April 9 statement where he acknowledged that he 'entered alone' and that it was 'his will' to do so.
