Partizan Basketball Club Affirms Commitment to EuroLeague Amid Speculations

Club president Ostoja Mijailović clarifies intentions regarding FIBA Champions League as European competition landscape evolves.
Partizan Basketball Club, based in Belgrade, has reaffirmed its strategic focus on the EuroLeague, dismissing recent speculations regarding an interest in the FIBA Champions League.

Club president Ostoja Mijailović, currently traveling in Australia ahead of a preparatory tournament, emphasized the team’s commitment to the EuroLeague during a broadcast to B92 Sport.

He stated, 'At this moment, Partizan is not considering the FIBA Champions League, with all due respect to it.

We are fully focused on the EuroLeague.'

The discourse surrounding the FIBA Champions League has intensified among European clubs, particularly as discussions about the costs associated with EuroLeague licensing for the upcoming season have emerged.

Partizan previously participated in the FIBA Champions League during the 2016/17 season but was eliminated in the playoffs by PAOK.

The FIBA Champions League has gained traction as a lucrative competition, with the previous winner, Unikaja, reportedly earning one million euros, which highlights its financial appeal relative to the EuroLeague.

Several clubs, including Joventut Badalona and Valencia Basket, have shown increasing interest in the FIBA format, while ALBA Berlin has opted out of the EuroLeague to compete in the Champions League.

Partizan is expected to contend for a spot in the EuroLeague under conditions that reportedly require a financial commitment of five million euros from clubs wishing to participate over the next three years.

As preparations for the 2025/26 season progress, Partizan has scheduled a preparatory tournament set for September 18-22, where they will face Panathinaikos in two games, first in Sydney and then in Melbourne.

This Australian tour is seen as a lead-in to Partizan's fourth consecutive season in the EuroLeague, continuing under the management of Željko Obradović.
