President Putin receives report on Ukrainian forces encircled in Kursk; discussions of a security zone along the border emerge.
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting at the command post of the Kursk Group of Forces, where General Valery Gerasimov provided an update on military operations in the Kursk region.
Gerasimov reported that Ukrainian armed forces have been encircled and isolated, claiming substantial losses for Ukraine, including approximately 67,000 troops and 400 tanks.
Putin expressed gratitude to Gerasimov for the military efforts in the area, emphasizing that plans by Ukraine have reportedly failed.
Discussions surrounding the establishment of a security zone along the state border were mentioned by Putin, who expressed optimism regarding the completion of military objectives set for Russian forces.
In his remarks, Putin underscored a humane approach towards those captured during the conflict, while labeling those who oppose Russian efforts in the Kursk region as terrorists.
He declared the necessity for the Kursk region to be liberated in the near future.
It has been reported that Ukrainian armed forces crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border and began military operations in the Kursk region on August 6 of the previous year.
As of now, Putin has not made any public statements regarding a ceasefire with Ukraine.
In contrast, U.S. President
Donald Trump, speaking prior to a meeting with the Irish Prime Minister, expressed a hope for a potential ceasefire, indicating that the decision lies with Russia.
He noted that negotiations were in progress, with U.S. representatives traveling to Russia, and suggested that achieving a ceasefire could significantly reduce violence in the region.
Trump warned that continued hostilities could lead to severe repercussions for Russia.
