Serbian President Discusses Recent Election Results and Economic Initiatives

Aleksandar Vučić addresses election outcomes and employment challenges, emphasizing the need for economic adaptation and infrastructure development.
In a recent appearance on the RTS television program 'Oko Magazin,' Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić discussed the electoral results in the municipalities of Kosjerić and Zaječar, highlighting the performance of his political party, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

Vučić noted that despite being in an environment marked by a 'terrible atmosphere of lynching' created by various media outlets, he finds satisfaction in the electoral outcomes, asserting that SNS had minimal support in Kosjerić during the 2017 elections.

He expressed astonishment at the significant support for the SNS, stating that a party achieving over 50% of the votes after several years in power is remarkable.

Vučić congratulated local leader Miloš Vučević for the accomplishments in Kosjerić and emphasized the challenges faced by candidates from his party, which he said included reported violence and intimidation against journalists and participants during the electoral process.

Vučić claimed that there were no accounts of violence associated with SNS, asserting that opposition parties used allegations of intimidation to influence public perception and that official electoral reports had no complaints recorded from opposition observers.

He stated that the elections were conducted fairly and expressed confidence in their legitimacy.

The president also addressed the upcoming parliamentary elections, promising that they would be called but highlighting recent incidents of violence against political candidates that he described as unprecedented.

He mentioned the case of Branka Lazić in Zaječar, who reportedly experienced physical assault while performing her journalistic duties.

Additionally, Vučić announced the establishment of a new factory in Zaječar, citing a demand for labor in various sectors of the economy.

He referred to the automotive company Stellantis, which is seeking to hire approximately 1,000 workers, and urged citizens to apply for these positions, pointing out that the starting salary ranges from 83,000 to 92,000 dinars, depending on qualifications and experience.

The president noted that the employment landscape in Serbia features vacancies in multiple industries, acknowledging that the country has an unemployment rate of 8.2%, lower than some EU nations.

He discussed plans for significant infrastructure investments related to the upcoming Expo in Belgrade, forecasting the addition of 1,500 apartments and improvements in transport links, including new railways and highways throughout the country, which he stated would enhance connectivity and contribute to regional development.

Vučić highlighted his administration's fiscal strategies and outlined efforts to raise the non-taxable income level to support employers and mitigate the impact of any planned increases in the minimum wage.

He acknowledged the challenges posed by recent protests and blockades, indicating a need for constructive dialogue with participants.

The president reflected on the economic performance over the past 12 years, asserting that wages have increased by 300% while inflation during the same time frame was recorded at 96%.

He conveyed a commitment to ensuring that pension increases may surpass wage growth and asserted that the government's focus is on creating sustainable economic conditions.

In closing, Vučić thanked citizens for their continued support, asserting that Serbia remains resilient despite various challenges and misinformation spread in the media.
