Six Arrested Following Attack on Serbian Students in Belgrade

Police continue to investigate and identify additional suspects in the violent incident involving students at a cafe.
In a recent incident in Belgrade, six individuals have been arrested in connection with an attack on students Miloš Pavlović and Vladimir Balać.

The assault occurred on Wednesday evening in the Students' Park area while the students were at a cafe.

Following the attack, both students were taken to the Emergency Center for treatment.

Pavlović, addressing the media, described the attack as unprovoked and called on authorities to promptly identify and apprehend those responsible.

He emphasized that he and his colleagues were targeted simply for their identity as students who wish to learn and succeed in their education.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and the Third Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade are actively investigating the case and plan to hold accountable all individuals involved in any criminal activities related to the incident.

The police have reported a total of 18 arrests linked to the attack, including suspects aged 20 to 26 years.

Investigators have identified 15 additional individuals who will also be processed under the law.

The prosecutor's office has issued instructions for the police to continue identifying and detaining all participants in the incident.

Witnesses described a scene of chaos as multiple assailants targeted Pavlović and his friends.

The Emergency Center provided medical evaluations, and injuries reported included trauma to the back, abdomen, and other areas.

Minister of Health Zlatibor Lončar visited the students at the Emergency Center and confirmed their injuries, stating that further diagnostic tests were being conducted to assess the extent of their conditions.

In tandem with the ongoing investigation, public discourse has heightened around the attack with statements from government officials.

President Aleksandar Vučić met with Pavlović and condemned the violence, asserting that the state will not tolerate such acts.

He assured that all involved in the assault would be brought to justice.

In response to the violence, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, characterized the attack as indicative of a broader societal issue, labeling it as a form of fascism.

She reiterated that violence would not be tolerated in Serbia and highlighted an increasingly tense environment surrounding the public protests and subsequent counteractions against students advocating for education and learning.
