DSI's Investment in Vinaver Medical: A New Player in Cancer Treatment Technology

DSI's Investment in Vinaver Medical: A New Player in Cancer Treatment Technology

The Digital Serbia Initiative invests in a domestic startup enhancing oncology diagnostics and therapy planning using AI and spectral CT technology.
The Digital Serbia Initiative's network of business angels has invested in Vinaver Medical, a Serbian startup that develops software solutions aimed at improving medical diagnostics and therapy planning in oncology.

The startup employs artificial intelligence and spectral computed tomography (CT) technology.

Vinaver Medical's founding team unites expertise in physics, engineering, and artificial intelligence to maximize the potential of clinical CT diagnostics.

Their patented software, which can integrate with existing systems irrespective of the manufacturer, has demonstrated effectiveness in tissue characterization within cardiac and abdominal diagnostics, with a significant impact on particle radiotherapy.

In advanced radiotherapy planning, accurate knowledge of the density and composition of tissues through which radiation passes is essential before it reaches the tumor.

Vinaver Medical's software extracts this critical information from CT images with a high degree of accuracy, facilitating better planning and safer delivery of therapy.

Stevan Vrbaški, founder and CEO of Vinaver Medical, stated, "The investment we received from DSI's business angels confirms that there is room for developing high-tech solutions from Serbia with applications in global medicine.

We will direct the funds towards patent protection, the implementation of ISO standards, and the process of obtaining FDA 510(k) certification.

Besides financial support, we greatly value the mentoring and strategic assistance from the angels, and we believe that with their experience and contacts, we will accelerate our product's entry into new markets."

Vinaver Medical’s solution enhances the operations of all stakeholders within the healthcare system, from clinicians to hospital administrators and insurers, providing the greatest benefit to cancer patients.

By enabling more precise and personalized therapy planning, the software contributes to the fundamental goal of modern radiotherapy: curing cancer with minimal or no side effects.

The product is currently being tested in collaboration with clinics in the region and in the U.S. and EU markets, while also actively contributing to the quality of patient care within Serbia’s healthcare system.

The Digital Serbia Initiative network comprises over 50 successful entrepreneurs and leaders across various sectors.

Since its establishment, the network has invested 1.3 million euros in 13 domestic startups, providing smart capital—financial, mentoring, and strategic support in the early stages of development.

Zorana Branković, a member of the Executive Board and COO of Intesa Bank, and a member of the Digital Serbia Initiative's network, remarked, "Vinaver Medical is a great example of a startup that combines scientific knowledge, market potential, and a strong team.

Their approach addresses concrete problems in modern medicine, and we believe they have the potential for global success."

The ongoing investment by the DSI network of business angels underscores a sustained interest among successful business figures in Serbia for investing in early-stage startups across various sectors.

Access to capital, knowledge, and the network provided by these business angels represents significant support for local teams in further validation and product development, as well as preparation for future growth phases and international market entry.
