Local Elections Underway in Zaječar and Kosjerić

Approximately 56,000 voters cast their ballots as polling stations open for regular local elections.
The locals of Zaječar and Kosjerić are participating in regular local elections today, where council members for the local assemblies of both municipalities are being elected.

Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM and will remain open until 8:00 PM, coinciding with the end of the election silence period.

Among the early voters in Zaječar was Vladimir Videnović, a candidate from the list "Ne damo Srbiju - Aleksandar Vučić," who cast his vote at polling station number 4 in the Timok local community just after 7:10 AM.

In Kosjerić, the mayor, Žarko Đokić, who is also the first on the "Ne damo Srbiju - Aleksandar Vučić" list, fulfilled his civic duty and voted shortly after the polls opened.

Polling stations across both municipalities have been confirmed as operational since 7:00 AM. In Zaječar, there are eight lists contesting for 50 council seats, with a total of 47,353 registered voters able to cast their ballots at 69 polling stations.

Competing lists in Zaječar include: "Ne damo Srbiju - Aleksandar Vučić," "Promena u koju verujemo - Uglješa Đuričković - Dragana Rašić," "Ujedinjeni za spas Zaječara - Miladin Krstić - Mirko Jelenković," and several others including parties representing the Socialist Party of Serbia and local coalitions.

In Kosjerić, which has 29 polling stations, 8,897 registered voters are eligible to participate.

The local assembly of Kosjerić comprises 27 council seats for which three lists are contesting: "Ne damo Srbiju - Aleksandar Vučić," "Ruska stranka - Srbija u Briksu! Slobodan Nikolić," and "Ujedinjeni za Kosjerić."

The election silence period commenced at midnight on Thursday and prohibits all forms of campaigning and result estimations until the polling stations close.

According to the Law on Local Elections, the election commission is required to draft and publish an official report on the election results within 96 hours after the polls close.

These elections were announced by the President of the Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, on April 13. The previous local elections in Zaječar and Kosjerić were held on March 28, 2021, with councils constituted on May 28 of the same year.
