Russia has accused Ukraine of postponing a scheduled prisoner exchange of soldiers and deceased personnel that was set to take place this weekend, based on an agreement reached during the second round of Russo-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey.

This allegation was articulated by Vladimir Medinsky, Russia's chief negotiator, who stated that the Ukrainian side unexpectedly delayed the acceptance of bodies of the deceased and the exchange of war prisoners indefinitely.

According to Medinsky, the planned exchange was the only tangible outcome of the recent direct talks held on Monday, during which the two sides had agreed to exchange all severely wounded or ill prisoners of war, as well as those younger than 25 years old.

He called on Ukraine through a Telegram message to take possession of the bodies of 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers, assuring that the remains of 1,212 Ukrainian personnel had already been delivered to the designated exchange site on the Russia-Ukraine border.

Medinsky remarked that, for unspecified reasons, the Ukrainian negotiation team did not arrive at the exchange location.

In addition, he disclosed that an initial list of 640 war prisoners, categorized as wounded, seriously ill, or young, had been submitted to Ukraine to initiate the exchange process.

The Ukrainian military’s headquarters for coordinating the treatment of prisoners has stated that Russia's claims today do not align with reality or previous agreements.

Ukrainian representatives have accused Russia of playing unfairly and engaging in manipulations.

As of now, approximately 1,000 individuals from each side, including both military and civilian personnel, have been exchanged following the first round of direct negotiations in Istanbul that occurred in May.

Despite these efforts, both nations remain far from a ceasefire or a lasting resolution to the conflict, as reported.
