Suspects Arrested in High-Profile Murder Near Belgrade Kindergarten

Two individuals, aged 20 and 16, detained in connection with the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man in Belgrade.
The Belgrade police have arrested two suspects, N. B. (20 years old) and B. R. (16 years old), in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old male identified as I. A. The incident occurred on Thursday evening at 8:15 PM on Gavrila Principa Street, where the suspects allegedly fired multiple shots from a firearm, striking the victim who was seated in the driver's seat of a Land Rover.

I. A. succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Following the shooting, the vehicle in which I. A. was traveling collided with a city bus on line 52, though there were no reported injuries among the bus passengers.

The incident took place in close proximity to the Isidora Sekulić Elementary School and a kindergarten, with reports indicating that children were present in the school at the time of the shooting.

In response to the incident, the police initiated operation "Vihor" and located both suspects, who were found in possession of two firearms.

The Ministry of Interior announced that N. B. will be brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade upon the expiration of his detention period, while B. R. will be presented to a juvenile judge within eight hours.

Local media have suggested that the victim, I. A., may not have been the intended target, but rather a friend who had been with him shortly before the attack.

The Ministry of Interior's report states that the suspects fired multiple projectiles towards two individuals, resulting in I. A.'s death, although it has not been specified whether the second individual was in the vehicle with him.

Minister of Interior Ivica Dačić commented on the police's swift response to the murder, stating that they apprehended the suspects within an hour of the incident.

He emphasized that the murder appeared to be ordered and that the suspects, one of whom is a minor, may have been compensated for the act.

Dačić acknowledged the decrease in murder rates in Belgrade compared to a decade or two ago but highlighted the complexity of criminal motives.

He noted that evidence collected at the crime scene indicated a clear correlation between the firearms found and the bullets used in the attack.

The minister, while affirming the efficiency of the police response, acknowledged that motivations and deeper implications behind the murder are still subjects for investigation.

Furthermore, he remarked on the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in mitigating violent crime.
