Tensions Rise in Zaječar and Kosjerić Following Local Election Results

Gatherings of citizens occur amid reports of celebrations and military police presence in response to local election outcomes.
Following the closure of polling stations in Kosjerić and Zaječar, significant gatherings of citizens were reported in both locations.

In Zaječar, a substantial number of gendarmerie officers were stationed outside the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) headquarters, not far from where citizens were congregating.

Meanwhile, in Kosjerić, a large crowd gathered in front of the United for Kosjerić headquarters, where celebrations ensued as the opposition list proclaimed victory in the local elections.

As the atmosphere intensified on the streets, citizens in Kosjerić began a procession toward the Olimpik Hotel before returning to the municipality, where election materials were being delivered under police escort.

The gathered crowds chanted slogans such as 'victory' and 'pump it,' while also expressing their sentiments through chants and egg-throwing towards the municipality entrance.

In Zaječar, residents assembled around a central roundabout, expressing their views by chanting 'pump it' and whistling.

Traffic was halted in front of the SNS electoral headquarters, with approximately twenty police officers positioned near the gathering, equipped for potential crowd control.

Reports indicated a group of men arriving in a bus at the SNS headquarters late in the evening, while the overall situation remained calm among the protesters who were blowing horns and vuvuzelas.

In Kosjerić, in front of the United for Kosjerić headquarters, crowds of citizens sang and danced, with social media posts indicating a charged atmosphere.

The local government building saw a similar turnout, where many gathered as election materials were delivered, continuing the celebratory chants of 'victory' and 'pump it.' This building also houses the local election commission.

In Novi Sad, students from the University organized a public monitoring event to track the results of the local elections in Kosjerić and Zaječar in front of the City Hall in the Liberty Square.

No police presence was noted, and instead of protective barriers, student organizers ensured that access to the building was controlled.

During the evening, a ceremony was planned to award 'diplomas' for the worst institutions, as decided by a vote during a previous protest in front of the courthouse in Novi Sad, which saw the judiciary receiving this dubious distinction.

All activities related to the local elections in Zaječar and Kosjerić are being observed in real-time reporting blogs.
