A trial regarding four activists of the Serbian Progressive Party, accused of physically assaulting students with a baseball bat in late January, has been adjourned in Novi Sad due to the absence of one of the defendants.

The defendant's attorney stated that his client was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Clinic at the Clinical Center of Vojvodina for abdominal issues that arose on Saturday, June 14. The defense provided medical documentation as verification, while the court requested official verification from the Clinical Center regarding this matter.

Following the adjournment, the attorney representing the injured students, Vladimir Beljanski, informed the media outside the court that it is uncertain whether this situation constitutes obstruction, but the proceedings will reveal if such behavior by one party is delaying the process.

The continuation of the trial has been scheduled for June 30, with an additional hearing set for July 15. During the previous hearing, all four accused, along with witnesses and victims, testified.

Two assailants were identified during the testimony.

The defendants are charged with inflicting severe bodily harm and engaging in violent behavior in complicity.

They have all denied the allegations.

The incident occurred in the early hours of January 28, around 3 AM, when several students were attacked while they were putting up posters in preparation for a major protest planned on three bridges in Novi Sad, which took place on February 1. The students were assaulted by individuals associated with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) based at their office on Boulevard Oslobođenja, resulting in one female student sustaining a broken jaw.

Following this attack, Miloš Vučević announced his irrevocable resignation from his position as Prime Minister of Serbia, and likewise, the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, also resigned.
