Yango Group Expands Operations to Serbia with New Data Center

Global tech company Yango Group plans to establish its infrastructure in Kragujevac, supporting global mobility and digital services.
Yango Group, a global technology company engaged in providing mobility services, delivery, digital retail, navigation and mapping services, digital entertainment, and artificial intelligence, has signed a memorandum of understanding to create a data center in Kragujevac, Serbia.

The move was reported following announcements from various industry outlets.

The data center is set to operate on a colocation model, wherein Yango Group will install its servers within a facility slated to commence operations in 2025. This data center is expected to serve as a major infrastructure hub for the company to support service delivery on a global scale.

Sources indicate that the facility will feature a modular, energy-efficient design equipped with state-of-the-art cooling systems, redundant power supply, and advanced security protocols.

Sustainability will be a core principle of the project, with energy consumption optimized through AI systems for climate control and the use of renewable resources whenever feasible.

It is anticipated that the facility will achieve Tier III certification or higher, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime, which is critical for a company whose services depend on timely system responses.

For Serbia, Yango's investment is viewed as a significant milestone, as the project is expected to generate hundreds of jobs both during the construction phase and once the center becomes operational.

Employment opportunities are projected in areas such as engineering, project management, cybersecurity, and logistics.

In a separate development, E.G.O., a leading global manufacturer of components for household appliances, has announced the closure of its production facility in Cerkno, Slovenia.

The closure will affect fewer than 5% of the nearly 600 employees at the company, as stated by representatives from E.G.O.

Officials confirmed that affected workers would receive all legally mandated compensation.

Conversations have occurred between management and the impacted workers, with assurances from union representatives that all entitled benefits will be provided.

The Cerkno facility, which has become non-essential for operations due to automation capabilities at the main plant in Cerknem, is among several in the metal industry experiencing a labor shortage.

Many affected workers are expected to find new employment relatively quickly.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture in Serbia has announced a public call for subsidies aimed at supporting the construction and equipping of agricultural facilities.

This initiative is set to run from June 12 to July 11, 2025, and is targeted at registered agricultural households, entrepreneurs, companies, cooperatives, agricultural schools, and religious communities.

Eligible projects must be valued at a minimum of 100,000 dinars, with a single application allowed per call, which may include multiple investments within the same area.

The subsidies aim to strengthen foundational agricultural production, signifying the government's commitment to investing in the essential infrastructure needed for sustainable farming.

Appeals for timely preparation of documentation and electronic submission through the EAGRAR portal have been encouraged by the Ministry of Agriculture.

In legislative changes, the Serbian government has recently rescinded a regulation supporting employers hiring newly settled individuals due to budgetary constraints caused by a significant rise in applications for the subsidies.

However, employers will still have access to tax incentives for newly settled individuals.

A new regulation has been implemented to provide financial assistance for housing related to the birth of a child, with the necessary documentation and criteria for applications clearly outlined for 2025.
