Arrests Made in University of Novi Sad's Medical Faculty Corruption Case

Multiple faculty members and an external associate face serious allegations including abuse of position and money laundering.
On June 11, 2025, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad announced the arrests of several individuals involved in a significant corruption case associated with the Medical Faculty at the University of Novi Sad.

Those detained include S.B., the dean of the faculty, as well as non-teaching staff members B.J., L.Č., R.G., S.T., and V.Š.

Additionally, Đ.M., the de facto responsible individual from a local cooperative in Novi Sad, has also been implicated.

The accused face several charges including multiple counts of abuse of official position, money laundering, and tax evasion as stipulated in the Criminal Code.

The investigation, carried out in collaboration with the Special Department for Suppression of Corruption, the Security Information Agency, and the Criminal Police Directorate, has revealed foundational suspicions that between 2022 and the end of 2024, S.B., B.J., R.G., and S.T. improperly increased their own salaries and those of certain non-teaching staff, resulting in a total appropriation of 30,223,023.25 dinars, which detrimentally affected the Medical Faculty.

Further allegations state that B.J. and L.Č.

authorized payments amounting to 20,088,879.80 dinars from the faculty's accounts for fictitious invoices provided by Đ.M. for purported services rendered.

Following these transactions, Đ.M. allegedly withdrew 15,511,330.00 dinars in cash, which was subsequently kept by V.Š., L.Č., and B.J.

R.G., who works in the accounting department of the Medical Faculty, is also suspected of providing false information affecting the income tax assessment for legal entities for the years 2022 and 2023. This action purportedly resulted in an unaccounted income tax liability totaling 115,968,480.00 dinars.

The accused have been placed under a 48-hour detention period, following which they will be brought before the Special Anti-Corruption Department for questioning, as announced by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad.

The public will be informed of any subsequent procedural developments.
