Bosnian National Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison for Murder in Novi Sad

Sultan Gušani found guilty of involvement in the murder of Milan Tucakov in November 2023.
Sultan Gušani, a 29-year-old national of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been sentenced to ten years in prison following a preliminary ruling for his involvement in the murder of Milan Tucakov, aged 54, in Novi Sad.

The incident took place on November 22, 2023, when Gušani, along with another unidentified male, allegedly attacked Tucakov in his apartment.

Judge Vladimir Pecovski, who presided over the case, explained that Gušani physically assaulted Tucakov during a time when the victim's ability to understand the nature of the act and control his actions was diminished.

The attack resulted in multiple injuries to Tucakov, including six stab wounds inflicted with knives, which ultimately led to his death.

The judge characterized the case as unique, noting that one perpetrator is in custody while the second remains unidentified.

Gušani did not dispute that he used a knife during the incident; however, he claimed that the absence of his DNA on the weapon does not imply he was not involved.

The court considered various forms of evidence, including a confession from Gušani, DNA material, forensic analysis, and witness statements regarding Tucakov's character.

Pecovski remarked on the evident struggle within the apartment, as reflected in the disarray of the scene and injuries sustained by Gušani, which might have occurred elsewhere.

He stated, "Your actions speak contrary to your words," highlighting video evidence that depicted Gušani behaving calmly after the murder.

During his trial, Gušani denied the charges against him, stating, "I cannot bring back his life; I am sorry.

I did not kill that man; I was defending myself." Following the ruling, he thanked the court.

The violent incident occurred in the center of Novi Sad, specifically in an apartment located at Zmaj Jovine 8. Tucakov's lifeless body was discovered by police on November 23, 2023, after a relative expressed concern about his welfare.

When authorities entered the apartment, they found Tucakov on the floor with various injuries inflicted by a sharp object.

Police apprehended Gušani shortly after the crime was discovered at a park in Belgrade, where he was found with evidence linking him to the scene.

Since his arrest, he has remained in custody, with the court extending his detention until he is transferred to a correctional facility for serving his sentence.
