Carlos Alcaraz Defends Roland Garros Title in Historic Final Against Jannik Sinner

The match, lasting over five hours, is hailed as one of the greatest in tennis history as Alcaraz stages a remarkable comeback.
Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his title at Roland Garros on June 8, 2025, defeating Jannik Sinner in an epic final that concluded with a scoreline of 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2).

This match marked the longest final in the tournament's history, lasting five hours and 29 minutes.

Alcaraz's victory secured his fifth Grand Slam title and his second at Roland Garros, as he continues to establish himself among the elite players in men’s tennis.

Throughout his career, he has also won two Wimbledon titles and one US Open championship, while Sinner remains with three Grand Slam trophies.

The final began with both players trading breaks of serve, but Sinner took the first set after capitalizing on his third set point.

The second set proved to be arduous, extending 70 minutes, with Sinner maintaining an early lead and ultimately winning the tiebreak 7-4, creating a 2-0 advantage in sets.

Alcaraz rallied in the third set, breaking Sinner and managing to win it 6-4, thus narrowing the match to 2-1 in sets.

The fourth set featured intense moments, notably when Alcaraz saved three match points while trailing 4-5. Following a series of tense games, he secured the set in another tiebreak to level the match at two sets apiece.

The decisive fifth set saw Alcaraz initially break Sinner's serve, but the tension escalated as Sinner managed to equalize at 5-5 after winning a crucial game on Alcaraz’s serve.

The match culminated in a super tiebreak, where Alcaraz raced out to a 7-0 lead before clinching the championship with a final score of 10-2 in the tiebreak.

Post-match, Alcaraz reflected on the challenge of coming back after losing the first two sets, praising Sinner for his exceptional performance.

He stated, "I was losing 0-2, and Jannik was playing incredibly in those two sets.

I had to push myself, gave everything I had, and just played the best tennis I could."

During the course of the match, Alcaraz improved his head-to-head record over Sinner to 9-4 and further solidified his position as a successor to the sport's legends, including Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

In discussing the match's historical significance, Alcaraz noted that while it was an extraordinary contest, he believed the 2012 Australian Open final between Djokovic and Nadal was even more remarkable.

In the doubles category, Serbian player Aleksandra Krunić, alongside her partner Ana Danilina from Kazakhstan, fell short in the final against the second seeded duo, Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Despite this loss, Krunić achieved her highest success in Grand Slam tournaments to date, marking a significant milestone in her career.
