Critical Incidents Highlight Safety Concerns in Serbia

A series of alarming accidents raise issues regarding safety protocols in public spaces and emergency responses.
A recent football match in Bajina Bašta nearly resulted in tragedy when a player collapsed after being struck in the head by the ball.

The incident occurred during a match involving Sloga, where number six on the team unexpectedly fell to the ground and became motionless.

Eyewitnesses reported that he appeared to swallow his tongue, leading to choking.

Swift actions by team medical personnel and fellow players resulted in immediate first aid being administered, and the player has since recovered.

The season concluded for Sloga with the team finishing in eighth place with 33 points.

In a separate incident, a 13-year-old girl was reported injured at Luna Park in Inđija after falling from a height of five meters.

The girl became trapped in a device intended for seated patrons, which malfunctioned and led to her fall.

She was transported via ambulance to the Clinical Center of Vojvodina in Novi Sad.

Initial reports indicate that while she was conscious during the medical intervention, the extent of her injuries is not yet known.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the girl had expressed concerns about the ride before it began, but her warnings were allegedly overlooked by the operators.

Moreover, incidents involving two young boys at the same time have drawn attention to pool safety.

Both boys were hospitalized in the Emergency Center in Niš after nearly drowning in separate accidents at the Čair pool.

The first victim, a 12-year-old, was in a comatose state when emergency responders revived him.

He is currently undergoing diagnostic tests.

The second boy, aged six, was brought to the hospital conscious and stable, having suffered a possible water aspiration and a minor head injury.

Additionally, a tragic incident involving a 24-year-old man named Danijel Petrović occurred in the Morava River near Paraćin.

After an extensive search effort, the body was recovered by divers from the Gendarmerie.

Locals described him as a hardworking individual with a passion for football, who faced significant personal hardships.

His family, particularly his single father, is in a dire financial situation.

Although the cause of death remains under investigation, initial unverified reports suggest the cold water may have played a role in the incident.

These incidents have raised significant concerns regarding safety practices in public recreational spaces in Serbia, as well as the adequacy of emergency responses in such situations.
