A comprehensive study conducted by the Dutch consumer association Consumentenbond, alongside seven other European consumer advocacy organizations, has revealed crucial insights into the reliability of automotive brands in the used car market.

This study involved a survey of 30,000 drivers across Europe who own vehicles ranging from six months to 12 years old.

The research analyzed over 200 models from 32 different brands, concluding that Japanese and South Korean manufacturers dominate when it comes to vehicle reliability.

Notably, eight out of the top ten brands on the reliability list are from these two countries.

Topping the list is Lexus, which achieved an impressive reliability rating of 9.6 out of a possible 10, establishing itself as a benchmark in the industry.

Following Lexus are Suzuki with a score of 9.0 and Subaru at 8.9. Toyota ranks fourth with a rating of 8.6, closely followed by Kia and Smart (both at 8.5), Honda and Mitsubishi (both at 8.3), Nissan at 8.1, and BMW at 8.0.

Among individual models, the clear leader in reliability is the Lexus NX, produced between 2014 and 2021, earning a remarkable score of 9.9 out of 10, marking a historic achievement in such studies.

Owners of the Lexus NX reported virtually no issues, even minor ones, with overall owner satisfaction rated at 8.5, which is above average.

The high reliability comes at a price, as these vehicles are considered expensive even in the used car market.

Another model recognized for its exceptional reliability is the Lexus CT200h, which received a rating of 9.4, and its user satisfaction exceeded even that of the NX at a score of 8.6.

Regarding Chinese automotive manufacturers, the researchers from Consumentenbond indicated that there is still insufficient data available to assess their reliability in the European market.
