Formula 1 car sold for nearly €16 million during Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
A Ferrari once driven by Michael Schumacher has been sold at auction for a record sum, achieving a final price of €15.98 million.
The auction took place in Monaco, coinciding with the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix weekend, attracting significant attention from collectors and motorsport enthusiasts.
The bidding event, managed by RM Sotheby’s, saw the car's price escalate from an initial bid set at €8 million to the final sale figure, inclusive of taxes, by a guest in the VIP area of the Hippodrome.
This particular Ferrari is notable for having been used by Schumacher to win the Monaco Grand Prix in 2001, a race he dominated during his illustrious career.
The auction format was both live and via telephone, facilitating participation from various bidders around the globe.
This sale marks the highest price ever paid for a Formula 1 car at auction, eclipsing previous records.
The former record was set by a
Mercedes W196, which was driven by legendary racers Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss in the 1950s.
That iconic vehicle was sold earlier this year for approximately €46 million, setting a benchmark that underscores the escalating value of historic racing cars.
The interest in Schumacher's Ferrari signifies the growing trend in the collector car market, particularly for vehicles tied to significant sporting achievements and legendary drivers.
