Message of solidarity emerges as Biden battles aggressive prostate cancer.
LONDON – King Charles III of the United Kingdom has expressed his support for former American President
Joe Biden following the latter's recent diagnosis of an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bones.
The British monarch, who is also undergoing treatment for unspecified cancer, conveyed his heartfelt wishes to Biden.
In July 2023, King Charles hosted then-President Biden for tea at Windsor, a meeting described by his spokesperson as having an "exceptionally cordial" atmosphere.
Biden attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, and in November 2021, he and Charles, then the Prince of Wales, held a bilateral meeting during the COP26 Summit in Glasgow.
Following the diagnosis, Biden took to social media to express his gratitude for the overwhelming support, acknowledging the pervasive impact of cancer on individuals and families.
Biden's office announced on Sunday that he has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer following examinations prompted by the discovery of nodules on his prostate amid increasing urinary symptoms.
The statement disclosed, "Last week, President
Joe Biden was evaluated due to the detection of nodules on his prostate after experiencing elevated urinary symptoms.
On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, classified with a Gleason score of 9 (Group 5), indicating metastases to the bones."
Despite the aggressive nature of the disease, preliminary assessments suggest a positive response to hormone treatment, potentially allowing for effective management of the illness.
