New State Assistance Program for Pensioners in Serbia

New State Assistance Program for Pensioners in Serbia

Over 20,000 pensioners eligible for free rehabilitation vacations starting April.
The Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PIO) of Serbia is set to announce the results of a competition for free rehabilitation services on March 18, which will allow over 20,000 pensioners to benefit from ten-day stays at one of 25 health resorts across the country.

The selection criteria focus on the amount and duration of pension benefits, along with the years of pensionable service.

Successful applicants will be informed promptly about their assigned rehabilitation centers, following which they will be contacted to arrange their visits.

Pensioners participating in the program allowed for three preferences regarding their desired health resorts, with the PIO Fund accommodating these requests where possible.

It is noted that while medical documentation is not factored into the scoring, it is essential for ensuring that pensioners are not assigned to facilities contraindicated for their health conditions.

Vrnjčka Banja continues to be the favorite choice among pensioners, supported by a facility staffed with over 40 specialized doctors focusing on diabetes, digestive disorders, and musculoskeletal conditions.

Additionally, the Merkur rehabilitation center serves between 1,600 to 1,700 pensioners annually at the expense of the PIO Fund.

Each pensioner will have their health records opened at the start of rehabilitation, receive a dedicated physician for guidance throughout their stay, and have opportunities to monitor and improve their health.

Those who do not meet criteria for this competition will have the option to undergo rehabilitation in subsequent six-month installments.

The PIO Fund coordinates with specialty hospitals that also receive insured individuals from the health insurance fund.

The program covers travel expenses to and from the resort destinations, including accommodations for necessary companions.

This applies to individuals requiring personal care or minor pensioners.

The free rehabilitation service may only be utilized once during a pensioner's retirement, a policy enacted in 2020 to maximize access for beneficiaries.

In a separate initiative, the Serbian government has announced a new measure to support agricultural producers with investments for acquiring new tractors and constructing facilities, allocating a total of 1 billion dinars for this purpose.

The Minister of Agriculture emphasized the government’s commitment to assisting farmers in enhancing their production, linking agricultural success directly to national prosperity.

Moreover, amid escalating global trade tensions, gold prices have reached record highs as investors seek safe-haven assets.

Asian markets are experiencing fluctuations due to concerns over potential tariffs, especially following statements from U.S. officials regarding increased duties on various European imports.

In financial markets, the U.S. dollar has seen slight recovery against the yen, yet it remains under pressure due to recession fears and ongoing trade disputes.

Notably, Brent crude oil prices have risen following prior declines, with ongoing shifts in supply and demand dynamics further complicating market conditions, as indicated by recent reports on U.S. gasoline inventory levels and broader energy consumption trends.

Alongside these developments, the National Bank of Serbia has approved regulatory measures to facilitate assistance for young adults purchasing their first homes.

The provisions enable minimal participant contributions for housing loans and aim to expand access to credit, addressing a wider demographic of potential homeowners.
