Coffee Prices Reach All-Time High Amid Supply Concerns

Dry conditions in Brazil impact global coffee markets, pushing prices to record levels.
Global coffee prices have surged to unprecedented levels, driven by reports of dry and hot weather conditions in Brazil, the world’s largest coffee producer.

Recent trading in New York saw coffee futures reach a record price of $4.2410 per pound, ultimately closing up by 6.2% at $4.211 per pound.

This represents a 35% increase in prices this year, following a significant jump of 70% last year.

As South American farmers grapple with limited supplies, they have sold approximately 85% of their current harvest and are hesitant to release additional stocks into the market.

Experts express growing concerns about the small reserves in Brazil, which produces nearly half of the world’s arabica coffee.

Bob Fish, co-founder of Biggby Coffee, which operates 350 stores across several U.S. states, noted the prevailing panic in the market, stating, "There are only two factors that could halt the rising prices: a good harvest in Brazil and Vietnam, which is not expected until August 2026, or a significant destruction of demand in consumer nations due to soaring prices."

Market analysts are divided.

Some believe upcoming Brazilian crops might yield better than anticipated, though not surpassing last year's yields.

Hedgepoint brokerages project Brazil’s coffee output for the 2025/26 season will amount to 64.1 million bags, an increase from an estimated 63.4 million bags the previous season.

The continuation of price increases has prompted some coffee shop owners in the United States to consider raising their prices to maintain profit margins.

As the coffee market fluctuates, stakeholders are keeping a close watch on upcoming harvest outcomes and the overall demand from consumers.
