Bratislav Gašić, the Serbian Minister of Defense, has publicly addressed comments made by Miroslav Aleksić, the leader of the People's Movement of Serbia, regarding the report from the Anti-Corruption Agency.

Gašić characterized Aleksić's remarks as an "absurd" stance on corruption and has demanded investigations into both his own and Aleksić's assets.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, Gašić accused Aleksić, who previously served as the mayor of Trstenik, of orchestrating fraudulent public works projects in collaboration with his father-in-law.

He cited alleged mismanagement that led to significant debt for the municipal heating plant, which, according to Gašić, was driven to financial ruin through concealed ownership.

Gašić asserted that Aleksić has been unable to officially transfer the ownership of his apartment for the past decade, suggesting that he is hiding unlawfully acquired assets.

In his statement, he requested a thorough examination of the origins of his own assets and expressed a willingness to have any assets deemed unlawfully acquired confiscated.

Moreover, Gašić called for a similar scrutiny into Aleksić's financial dealings, indicating that a comprehensive investigation into both individuals should be conducted to establish accountability.

In a prior statement, Aleksić criticized the Anti-Corruption Agency's report for the previous year, asserting that it indicated a lack of effective action toward combating corruption in Serbia.

He specifically urged authorities to investigate the financial backgrounds of several officials, including Gašić, as well as Siniša Mali and Zorana Mihajlović.

The exchange between Gašić and Aleksić highlights ongoing tensions in Serbian politics over issues of transparency and corruption.
