Student from the Faculty of Law Seeks Safety Assessment Following Assault

Petar Živković, a law student, requests a safety evaluation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs after suspecting the motives behind his recent assault.
Petar Živković, a student at the Faculty of Law, announced today that he intends to request a safety assessment from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) following an assault he experienced earlier this week.

The 22-year-old student expressed doubts regarding the police statement, which suggested that the altercation stemmed from a dispute over a sports jersey.

He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the true motives behind the attack.

Živković stated, "This has no basis whatsoever.

The police reviewed footage from that night, both inside and outside the venue, and they informed us that there were absolutely no signs of contact between us and any other individuals present in the establishment.

We did not provoke any attack." He also questioned claims made by the alleged attackers, who indicated that they mistook him for another individual involved in a conflict over a sports jersey.

"It’s hard to believe that they would wait for me out of everyone else, and that I would be randomly attacked when I isolated myself from the group," Živković remarked, expressing skepticism about this explanation.

He criticized the Ministry of Internal Affairs for broadcasting only the suspects' version of events, which he believes contributes to a misleading narrative.

The police in Belgrade have detained four individuals suspected of attacking Živković.

According to the MUP, there is no evidence to suggest that the assault was politically motivated or connected to his participation in student protests.

The suspects, identified as V. R. (24), F. D. (19), A. M. (20), and A. S. (22), have been arrested under the directive of the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, facing allegations of assaulting Živković and causing him minor physical injuries before fleeing the scene.

In light of public statements suggesting a politically motivated attack, the MUP clarified that their investigation has not linked the incident to Živković's involvement in student activism.

Instead, they reiterated the alleged connection to a dispute regarding a sports jersey, referencing statements from the detained suspects.

The incident took place around 1:30 AM on Dimitrija Tucovića Street, after Živković had exited a café with two female colleagues.

According to their accounts, five unidentified men approached them, pushed the women aside, and physically attacked Živković for several minutes, resulting in visible injuries that included bleeding from his head.
