Student Protests in Serbia: March Towards Belgrade Continues

Student Protests in Serbia: March Towards Belgrade Continues

Students from across Serbia are marching towards Belgrade for a significant protest on March 15th, amidst ongoing faculty occupations and public demonstrations.
The student protests in Serbia have escalated, with various groups of students continuing their march towards Belgrade for a major rally scheduled for March 15, dubbed '15 for 15'.

Students from different cities, including Sombor, Kragujevac, Niš, Čačak, Kraljevo, and Šabac, have been marching on foot or by bicycle.

Students from Novi Sad are expected to join the march tomorrow.

The students have orchestrated faculty occupations for nearly four months, consistently voicing their intention to pursue systemic changes rather than one-time events.

They expressed via social media that they are not merely concluding their efforts but initiating what they term 'tectonic changes'.

They have promised to remain on the streets and continue their fight until their demands are met.

Their call is directed towards fellow students, workers, and citizens to participate in the protests, asserting that they will not accept injustice and declaring a renewed engagement in advocacy for social changes.

In a related event, citizens across Serbia paused for a 15-minute moment of silence at 11:52 AM to honor victims of a recent tragedy at a railway station in Novi Sad.

In Belgrade, participants, including a group of education workers, displayed banners with messages advocating for a healthier Serbia.

On the second day of their march, students from the University of Kragujevac resumed their journey to Belgrade from Rača, their first stop, where they covered 33 kilometers of their planned 140-kilometer route.

They were welcomed by approximately 5,000 locals upon their arrival in Rača. As the march continues, students have passed through the village of Vučić, where a sign previously indicating the village name was replaced with 'Studentgrad'.

The next destination for the marchers is Mladenovac, where they plan to rest for the night before proceeding towards Grocka, aiming to reach Belgrade on March 15. Meanwhile, a convoy of agricultural workers, traveling on tractors, has joined the student movement, providing logistical support for their protest efforts.

They plan to travel through Debrc and Obrenovac en route to the Capitol.

Statements from agricultural community leaders indicate solidarity with students, while emphasizing a peaceful protest approach.

Some agricultural groups are also preparing to join the demonstration, planning organized travel from various western Serbian locations.

Additionally, a group of cyclists began their journey this morning from Sombor to Novi Sad, carrying a Charter of Parental Solidarity intended for the parents of students participating in the march.

This initiative has been coordinated with student organizers, emphasizing support for the students' campaigns for justice and an equitable legal framework.

As the protests unfold, the commitment among participants remains strong, with many pledging solidarity and sustained activism until their objectives are achieved.
