Tragic Family Deaths in Buenos Aires Investigated as Possible Murder-Suicide

A family of four found dead in upscale residence raises questions about mental health and domestic violence.
On May 21, 2023, at approximately 1:30 PM, the bodies of four individuals were discovered in a luxury apartment in Buenos Aires, Argentina, by the family’s housekeeper who entered the residence using her keys.

Initial reports indicate that the deceased individuals are identified as Bernardo Adrián Selcer, aged 53; his wife Laura Fernanda Legisamon, aged 51; and their two sons, Ijan, 15, and Ivo, 12. It is suspected that Bernardo Selcer may have murdered his family before taking his own life.

Preliminary investigations suggest that robbery or forced entry can be ruled out, as there were no signs of violent tampering with the entrance and the apartment showed no disorder commonly associated with a break-in.

The housekeeper, who regularly attended to the family's needs, reported that the doors were closed and showed no irregularities upon her arrival.

As the investigation progressed, the focus of suspicion shifted from Bernardo to Laura Legisamon, who is now considered the primary suspect in the family’s deaths.

It is believed that she may have taken her own life following a psychotic episode.

Key elements emerging from the investigation include a handwritten note purportedly left by Laura, the manner in which the bodies were found, the weapon used, and her psychiatric history.

The scene depicted a grim tableau: one son was found dead in a corridor leading to the dining area, while the other was discovered in his bedroom, both showing signs of having been stabbed.

Laura was located in the bathroom, while Bernardo was found in their bedroom with multiple stab wounds.

Forensic examinations suggested that Bernardo likely fell victim to an attack while asleep and suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest, thus contradicting initial suspicions of him being the assailant.

Both boys appeared to have been attacked from behind, displaying defensive wounds, indicating an attempt to escape their attacker.

Laura was found with a single stab wound to her heart, believed to have been inflicted after she reportedly stabbed herself in the chest in their bedroom.

Initial findings suggest she was the last to die.

A knife, believed to be the weapon used in the attacks, was recovered from the master bedroom, thought to have been left by Laura after she inflicted her fatal injury while making her way to the bathroom.

Laura’s sister stated that she had been experiencing psychiatric issues, while the housekeeper noted that Laura had behaved differently for several weeks prior, suspecting that she had likely ceased taking her medication for mental health treatment.

A note found at the scene contained a message believed to be from Laura, expressing despair: "Everything bad was too much.

I love you.

Bad, twisted."

Despite the tragic events, social media portrayed Laura Fernanda Legisamon as a devoted mother and active socialite, frequently sharing images depicting a loving family dynamic characterized by travel and outdoor activities.

Her Facebook profile was filled with photographs of family vacations across various locations in Argentina and abroad, including Mar del Plata, Kariló, and Spain.

In addition to her family life, Laura was actively engaged in sports and social events, regularly posting about her tennis matches and cycling outings with friends.

The familial bonds were evident, with her parents frequently appearing in her posts, showing a close relationship with their grandchildren, attending school events and family celebrations.
