Serbian Woman Arrested in Greece for Alleged Murder of Husband

34-year-old suspect charged following the discovery of a buried body in Leptokarya.
A 34-year-old Serbian woman has been arrested in Greece on suspicion of murdering her husband, 58-year-old Kostas Siyamitrasa, and subsequently burying his body in the backyard of their family home in Leptokarya, a coastal town in the Olympic region.

The case has garnered significant media attention as it marks a notorious crime in the area.

The suspect, who is six months pregnant, was scheduled to testify before an investigative judge but was transported to a hospital due to an undisclosed medical issue prior to the proceedings.

According to Greek media reports, emergency medical personnel responded to her detention facility and transported her to a hospital in Katerini where doctors determined she required further examination.

A new hearing is reportedly set for today at 9 AM.

Kostas Siyamitrasa was reported missing on September 2, 2022. During the investigation, the suspect appeared on media outlets expressing concern and despair over her husband's disappearance.

Following her arrest, she reportedly confessed to the killing, claiming that the incident occurred after a quarrel when she pushed her husband, resulting in his death from injuries sustained in the fall.

She also admitted to burying his body in their backyard.

Authorities were led to the burial site where forensic experts discovered human remains, including a skull, approximately 40 centimeters below the surface.

The investigation revealed that during the five months Kostas was missing, the suspect made numerous public appearances claiming her husband's absence had left their home empty, and she expressed distress over their son's longing for his father.

She suggested in interviews that her husband may have collapsed due to respiratory issues, implying that he had not received assistance.

Greece's media have disclosed that the suspect, while appearing to play the role of a concerned spouse, was under investigation amid accumulating evidence and witness testimonies, including statements from their three-year-old son.

The boy was interviewed in the presence of a psychologist, and it was reported that he also revealed information related to the incident through his drawings.

The suspect has reportedly reasserted her account of the incident during subsequent police interrogations, claiming that their argument led to a physical confrontation, resulting in her husband hitting his head and subsequently not breathing.

In a development related to the case, the daughter of the deceased from a previous marriage has expressed skepticism about the suspect's ability to have buried the body alone, indicating that she believes someone must have assisted her in the act.
