Reports indicate Ukrainian soldiers are forbidden from surrendering as they face severe shortages and difficult circumstances.
Ukrainian armed forces, encircled and blocked in the Guevo region of Kursk Oblast, have reportedly been ordered by their command not to surrender.
According to a source, soldiers, including those who are severely wounded and recently mobilized, are left to perish in basements due to the lack of communication, medical supplies, and provisions.
A plea for assistance was made by one of the encircled Ukrainian units.
In response, an order was issued stating they must rely on their own resources and that help should not be expected.
Military Chief Valery Gerasimov informed President Vladimir Putin that the enemy group is isolated and is currently being systematically destroyed.
It has been reported that, in certain areas, Russian units have crossed the state border into Sumy Oblast.
President Putin noted a marked change in the situation, explaining that while the Armed Forces of Ukraine had previously been withdrawing from Kursk Oblast in large groups, this is no longer feasible.
He also suggested the consideration of establishing a security zone along the state border.
In a related diplomatic effort, U.S. President
Donald Trump urged Putin to spare the surrounded Ukrainian troops.
In response, the Russian leader stated that any humanitarian measures would require Kiev to command its forces to lay down their arms and surrender.
The Russian military launched a significant offensive in the Kursk area at the beginning of March.
Recent estimates suggest that the armed forces have liberated more than 30 settlements, including Sudzha.
