Young Man Held in Custody for Alleged Murder of Mother in Novi Sad

21-year-old suspect M. K. faces serious charges following the death of his mother in a domestic incident.
A 21-year-old man from Novi Sad, identified as M. K., remains in custody on suspicion of murdering his 43-year-old mother, Aleksandra R., with a knife on the night of February 1-2. His detention has been extended and can last until April 3.

The incident occurred in their family apartment located on the first floor of a building on Mičurinova Street, where both mother and son resided.

Neighbors reported the crime after hearing disturbances and witnessing objects being thrown from the building's window or terrace, prompting them to contact the police.

Upon arrival, police officers discovered the son and the lifeless body of his mother in the apartment, along with the knife believed to be the weapon used in the alleged crime.

Medical personnel from the Novi Sad Emergency Medical Institute were called to the scene but could only confirm the woman's death.

Following an interrogation, a judge from the Higher Court in Novi Sad ordered M. K. to be held in custody for a period of 30 days, citing special circumstances that suggest he might commit another crime if released, as well as concerns for public safety which could impede the proper and fair conduct of criminal proceedings.

Residents of Mičurinova Street, who knew the deceased Aleksandra R., described her as a wonderful woman and a caring mother.

A neighbor expressed shock at the tragedy, stating, "I can only say the best about her.

She was always kind and compassionate towards her son.

It’s devastating what has happened."

Colleagues from the healthcare facility where Aleksandra R. worked also spoke fondly of her, emphasizing her kindness and dedication.

"I cannot describe how wonderful she was, both as a patient caregiver and as a colleague.

She was so approachable and kind; we all loved her," one co-worker remarked, reflecting the sentiments shared by many in the community.
